For over 10 years IPD has produced space efficiency and occupancy cost analysis, and since 2003 has produced environmental property performance information – including energy and water consumption and waste arisings in offices. IPD supports industry-wide research in the sustainability arena such as the Sustainable Property Appraisal Project. IPD is in the unique position to be able to link the sustainability of a property and a portfolio through to its financial performance, using consistent data sets and definitions on a global scale.
In 2008, IPD published the highly acclaimed IPD Environment Code as a new standard for measuring energy CO2, water, waste, pollution, materials, health and well-being and management. The Environment Code spurred global interest and has so far been downloaded by over 5,000 individuals from 75 countries.
In 2008, IPD produced a free-to-use environmental health check - 40 question survey for individual properties - as well as a carbon calculator which will give you a quick estimate of the carbon emissions of your buildings.
IPD is in the process of developing the following products / services for sustainability:
- ISPI – the IPD/ IPF Sustainable Property Index in the UK, launched end June 2009 and updated quarterly - supported by the IPF, a portfolio analysis service will be offered
- IPD Eco-Ledger - Sustainability benchmarking of investor portfolios and occupier estates that offers year on year, qualitative and quantitative analysis with benchmarks based on 6000 properties
- Working with BRE to provide analysis and benchmarks for its BREEAM In Use certification scheme
